Thanks, guys! The Backroads Touring - Kansas site has this to say about the 100,000 miles of "secondary and unpaved roads" that they ride:

We consider ourselves most fortunate to have access to the tallgrass prairie and other unique areas of Kansas, and are committed to leaving those areas just as we found them. To those folks who live where we travel to .... we are pledged to "tread softly and leave nothing behind". As a group, we only ride public access roads and do not ride on private roads without permission. When we cross unfenced open rangeland via public roads, we will remain on the roadbed so as to not cause possible damage to the prairie or raise the ire of landowners. We will also take precaution to not "spook" roaming herds of livestock when riding through open range areas.

This is awesome. One of the photos was taken here. I lived in Victorville, CA, as a kid and used to camp in Kings Canyon National Park. I'd love to ride there someday.

GSM Moto Rent

You gonna be near Townsend, TN, this summer? Bikeless? Then rent one from GSM Moto Rent. Sometime this year (couldn't determine exactly when from the site) will be their first anniversary. They have the ubiquitous KLR 650 for rent, a Suzuki DR 650 and a DR 200.

Oh, and cabins. Did I mention the cabins? I think I'd prefer to stay in the vintage Avion Camper.

Saw a couple KTM 950's at Big Sur

Saw a couple KTM 950 Adventures on Hwy 1 near Big Sur today. They took off up a dirt road, and around sunset I saw them again at Bixby Bridge. I'll have to look up the route they took.

Update: I posted the original item from my iPhone near Monterey, and now that I'm home I looked up the route on Google Maps. Here's a link.

Maui Dual Sport closed

Not sure when they closed, but it was sometime after August 31, 2008. Best wishes to the owner. Hope they can open again soon.

... Maui Dual Sport is not in operation at the moment. It is possible that we will reopen for business, but that date is yet to be determined. It was a pleasure doing business with you, and hopefully we will have another opportunity in the near future to make your stay in Maui a memorable one.

Doc Mike sent an email to the Cult about a July 12 ride, and I'm passing it along to you. Here's a thread on AdvRider if you want to hook up with the Doc and his crew.

Mark your calendars; July 12th (Sunday) is the 3rd installment of our CNY 2009 dual sport ride series. Round three is going to be a fun filled ride taking us through three counties with over 140 miles of off-road single and double track, seasonal/dirt roads and some abandoned railroad sections. We will have three hosts for this ride, each guiding us through three different segments of the ride. I’ll start off guiding through the first 3rd of the ride; Barry and Todd have agreed to guide the middle and final sections of the ride.  You won't be disappointed, this ride will take us through some of the nicest off road riding in CNY. We will have something for everyone... Mild fire roads, old enduro course single track, Abandoned RR beds, pipe line runs and even some optional hero sections that will test your riding skills and keep your adrenaline pumping. As always plan on a full day of riding with stops for fuel, rest and food.

Rawhyde 2009
